Machu Picchu is a national and world heritage: declared a Peruvian Historical Sanctuary in 1981 by the Peruvian Government and by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
It has been described as "an absolute masterpiece of architecture and a unique testimony to the Inca civilization". In 2007, Machu Picchu was voted one of the New Seven Wonders of the World in a worldwide Internet poll and it is considered one of the places you MUST see before you die!
In the morning we will enjoy one of the most beautiful train rides over the Andean highland. Our journey than will descend into the Sacred Valley of the Incas and continue through the Urubamba Gorge to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu). During the two (2) hour trip following the course of the Urubamba river we will descend into lush tropical vegetation. After arriving to Aguas Calientes we will drive up to the most famous site of the Southern hemisphere: to the enigmatic remains of the Lost City of the Incas: the legendary Machu Picchu. We will visit this magical site with an expert guide and have some time for individual exploration. In the afternoon we return to Cusco by train.
