This fascinating cultural tour combines guided visits to the most important sites in Cusco: Qoricancha, or the Inca Temple of the Sun, the colonial-era cathedral, with its wealth of artworks, and the imposing Inca ruins within the Sacsayhuaman Archaeological Park.
At 1:30 pm you will be escorted to Cusco’s cathedral, on the city’s main square. After a guided visit of this great church filled with priceless colonial-era artworks, we will head to Qoricancha. Once the most important Temple of the Sun in the entire empire of the Incas, the remains of the magnificent stonework of this ancient sacred site are located within the walls of the Spanish Santo Domingo church.
Leaving the city, we will head up into the surrounding hills and visit Sacsayhuaman, once the Inca “House of the Sun,” composed of temples, palaces, and astronomical observatories. Many of the stones which form the walls of this massive complex weigh up to 130 tons and were positioned with incredible precision. We will also visit Tambomachay (a shrine dedicated to water).
6:00 pm: Return to Cusco.
