Colca Canyon is an area of extraordinary scenic beauty, and one of Peru's top destinations. Colca is best known as one of the world's deepest canyons, reaching a depth of more than 3400 meters (11,220 feet). Its great depth can most easily be appreciated from Cruz del Condor, a viewing point where Andean condors can be seen most days throughout the year. The inhabitants of Colca are justly proud of their unique traditions and culture.
After breakfast, we will begin our bus trip through the volcanic landscape of this part of southern Peru. We will be passing wild herds of alpacas and vicuñas, and we will stop at several viewing points to admire the surrounding landscape. At around noon, we will arrive at the village of Chivay, 160 km from Arequipa. After checking in to the hotel, you will have plenty of time to enjoy a relaxing visit to the nearby La Calera natural hot springs, before returning to the lodge for a good night’s rest.
Overnight in Chivay
We will start our day early with a morning bus ride to the famous viewing point known as Cruz del Condor. Standing at the edge of the abyss, we will have mesmerizing views of Colca Canyon. This is the best place to observe majestic condors in their natural habitat, as they rise from the valley on the morning thermals. We will have plenty of time to enjoy this spectacular sight before returning to Chivay and then to Arequipa, arriving in the city around nightfall.
