On this 3-day tour, called "Coffee and Inka Trail to Machu Picchu," you will have the opportunity to experience the natural beauty and rich history of the Cusco region, especially in the cloud forest. We will take you on roads above 4300 meters, with glacial landscapes, and then descend toward the Santa Teresa jungle. Here, there will be time to enjoy the thermal baths of Cocalmayo. Nearby, we will camp at a coffee farm, where you can try the delicious Peruvian coffee, considered among the best in the world. We will hike part of an Inka trail that leads to a pass, where you will have one of the most spectacular views of Machu Picchu. We end the trip with a visit to Machu Picchu.
We will begin our journey by bus to Santa Teresa and cross the Malaga Pass at 4300 meters above sea level. If we are lucky, we will glimpse the stunning Veronica glacier, which stands at 5650 meters above sea level and is considered one of the most beautiful in Cusco. 3 hours later, we will relax in the Cocalmayo hot springs in Santa Teresa, then take local transportation through banana, coffee, avocado, and other crop plantations to Lucmabamba. We will spend the night in an organized camp. Our host will give us a tour of his coffee plantation. Depending on the season, we may be able to help with the coffee harvest or participate in roasting and grinding the beans.
Overnight stay in Lucmabamba
We will start the day with breakfast and a hike through picturesque coffee plantations as we ascend to El Mirador (2800 meters / 9186 feet). From here, you will enjoy a breathtaking view of Machu Picchu, the legendary Lost City of the Incas. After taking ample time to appreciate the scenery, we will enjoy lunch at the Llaqtapata vantage point (2650 meters / 8,694 feet), which offers stunning views of both Machu Picchu and Mount Salkantay. After a brief rest, we will begin a two-hour descent to the Machu Picchu hydroelectric station, where we will take a train to Aguas Calientes. If time permits, we can also hike to Aguas Calientes. Upon arrival in the late afternoon, there will be time to relax in natural hot springs before dinner or simply unwind and rest at the hotel.
Overnight stay in Aguas Calientes (2000 meters / 6561 feet) (B/L)
After breakfast, we will take one of the first buses to Machu Picchu to enjoy the morning in this magical setting. Your expert guide will provide information about the history of this unique archaeological site. We will return to Aguas Calientes in the afternoon, in time for the train that will take us to Cusco. Upon arrival in the city, you will be transferred to your hotel. (B)
