This neo-colonial city of white volcanic stone is located at 2,380 meters (7,850 feet) above sea level in a fertile, irrigated valley surrounded by desert between the Andes and Peru’s Pacific coast. Known as “The City of Eternal Spring”, Arequipa receives less than 150mm of annual rainfall and the sun shines all year round. The canyons of Colca and Cotahuasi can be reached easily from Arequipa. At more than 3,400 meters (11,220 feet) deep, they are considered the deepest canyons in the world, and they are home to traditional Andean culture and native fauna, including condors.

Day 3: Colca Canyon - Arequipa

We will start our day early with a morning bus ride to famous “Cruz del Condor”. Standing on the edge of the abyss, we will have mesmerizing views of Colca Canyon. This is the best place to observe majestic condors in their natural habitat, as they rise from the valley on the morning thermals. We will have plenty of time to enjoy this spectacular sight before returning to Chivay and then to Arequipa, arriving in the city at nightfall.
