Covering a total of more than 30,000 kilometers, the vast network of highways created by the Incas stretched north as far as present-day Colombia, and south into Argentina and Chile, linking every town and city in the empire. Today, hikers come from all over the world to walk a section of that system: the Inca Trail from Cusco to Machu Picchu.
This is one of the world’s five greatest treks, unmatched in terms of biological diversity and archaeological legacy. Walkers will pass through several Inca sites, on a route surrounded by massive snow-capped peaks, high grasslands, waterfalls and dense, fauna-rich cloud forest.
